Appendicitis Symptoms

Appendicitis symptoms are what we will discuss in this article. To be more precise, what appendicitis symptoms you are most likely to encounter and what you should do should you encounter them. We will also discuss what you should do after you have diagnosed, suspected appendicitis, and how you can be proactive and ensure that the appendicitis does not become severe.

The most common appendicitis symptom is pain in the lower right quadrant of your abdomen. More specifically, between your navel and pelvic bone. This area and the surrounding area are extremely painful to the touch. In addition, you may also have other appendicitis symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, fatigue and lethargy. If you're experiencing lower right stomach pain, in conjunction with two or more of these symptoms, then it is most likely that you are suffering a case of appendicitis.

Appendicitis symptoms are most likely to show up in males as they are more prevalent to bouts of appendicitis. Keep in mind though that acute or severe appendicitis is often more prevalent in young children and teenagers. One should be especially wary with any appendicitis symptoms when young children are involved as often they cannot explain pain properly or be specific as to the area or location of the pain. If you child does have pain in the lower right area of the stomach and is suffering from other appendicitis symptoms then you should consult your doctor or GP straight away.

As you can see many of the appendicitis symptoms you could easily mistake for any number of other ailments. The pain in the lower right area of the stomach is the main appendicitis symptom that you should be aware of.

Your doctor will usually diagnose appendicitis simply by pressing on the lower right area of one's stomach with their hands. If this brings acute pain, then the doctor would most likely refer you on for an ultrasound scan which in most cases, will show a greatly enlarged appendix.

Treatment for appendicitis may include a course of antibiotics (only if the appendicitis is caught early on, and it is very mild) or as in most cases, surgery under general anesthesia to remedy the appendicitis.

As you can see, once you are aware of appendicitis symptoms, then catching it earlier on before it becomes a severe case of appendicitis is not too difficult. But being aware of appendicitis symptoms itself is the first crucial step in fixing the problem.
